Recommendations on the Use of Multimodality Cardiovascular Imaging in Young Adult Competitive Athletes: A Report from the American Society of Echocardiography in Collaboration with the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance

The interpretation of imaging data obtained in the care of competitive athletes (CA) requires a comprehensive understanding of exerciseinduced cardiac remodeling (EICR) and an ability to distinguish the characteristics of this process from findings suggestive of pathology. Accordingly, cardiovascular specialists are best positioned to provide effective care for CA if they possess the ability to integrate and interpret multimodality diagnostic imaging as required on an individual case-by-case basis. This document was designed to provide a framework for the use of multimodality imaging in the assessment of CA. Throughout this document, emphasis will be placed on the use of appropriately selected multimodality imaging as required to diagnose, exclude, and manage clinically relevant CVD in CA.
