Echo Magazine Physician Co-Editor

ASE Seeking Applications for Volunteer Position of Echo Magazine Physician Co-Editor
Deadline to Apply: May 31, 2024

The American Society of Echocardiography’s Echo magazine is a bi-monthly online publication. ASE has thousands of members, and this means that there are thousands of voices with things to say about echocardiography. This publication includes communications from the ASE President, and ASE Councils and Specialty Interest groups, and well as the ASE education calendar. The magazine is also an outlet for all ASE members to contribute interesting articles or images related to cardiovascular ultrasound that are not research articles/images.

Echo magazine has two co-editors. One is appointed as the Secretary of the ASE Board of Directors and the other is a physician member of ASE. The physician member position will be open beginning July 1, 2024, and it will run for three years with the opportunity to extend the position for one additional year. This volunteer will work closely with Echo magazine co-producers, Angie Porter, Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs, and Debbie Meyer, Director of Publications and the other sonographer Co-Editor (starting in July 2024, this position will be filled by Melissa Wasserman, RDCS, RCCS, FASE, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA who will serve a two-year term). There is no travel related to the position. The selected candidate will maintain an active ASE membership.

The following is a list of responsibilities and expected time commitment for this volunteer position.

  • Proof-read each issue of Echo magazine to ensure that each article is appropriate as related to the ASE mission, that articles are related to ASE and the advancement of cardiovascular ultrasound, and do not compete with ASE’s mission or activities.
  • Suggest articles and encourage potential authors to submit to the magazine.
  • Work with Echo magazine’s co-producers to consider the appropriateness of a potential article suggested by an ASE member.
  • Serve on the ASE Publications Committee as a representative of Echo magazine. The committee meets four to six times a year for approximately 60 minutes. This committee serves to support ASE’s three publications, JASE, CASE, and Echo Magazine, and create synergies between the journals to further the field.

To apply, please send (email to Echo@ASEcho.org) a letter to interest, including your current CV and any publication experience you may have that is relevant, to the chair of the ASE Publications Committee, Raymond Stainback, MD, FASE, by May 31, 2024.

Any questions regarding this role may be directed to Debbie Meyer or Angie Porter at Echo@ASEcho.org
