Call for Officer and Directors Nominations
(terms begin June 2014)

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
VICE PRESIDENT

ASE is seeking nominations for Vice President (one-year term; ladder to presidency)
The Vice President’s duties shall be delegated by the Board of Directors and the President. The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President-Elect in the event of his/her inability to serve. The term of office will begin imiately upon installation at the Annual Business Meeting in June.

CRITERIA FOR OFFICERS:

  • Active ASE Member
  • Has served (or currently serving) on ASE’s Board of Directors
  • Must be a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) at time of nomination and be board certified in his/her subspecialty area(s).*
  • Respected in the profession
  • Is a strategic thinker
  • Has the time, dedication and financial ability to serve
  • Is well versed in ASE history and organizational knowledge
  • Is committed to the strategic planning process and understands ASE’s mission and goals
  • Can broadly represent the ASE membership
  • Officers cannot participate in paid consultancy positions with commercial entities relative to the cardiovascular field (e.g., device and pharmaceutical companies) or for-profit educational bodies relative to the cardiovascular field (e.g., cardiovascular web business, etc.). Royalties from published educational materials are allowed.
  • Officers may not serve in simultaneous leadership positions on another membership organization/society relative to the cardiovascular field during their term of office. Participation on credentialing and/or accreditation bodies or governmental agencies relative to the cardiovascular field is allowed.
  • Officers may not provide testimonials and/or endorsements or participate as speakers for commercial entities relative to the cardiovascular field (e.g., device and pharmaceutical companies) where that endorsement has not been specifically approved by the Society.
  • Candidates for Vice President must have a letter from their institution indicating approval of the time commitment needed to perform duties as President (approximately 30% of individual’s time).

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
BOARD OF DIRECTORS (5 positions)

ASE is seeking nominations for the Board of Directors:

Five (5) directors to serve for a term of three (3) years. In these positions, the directors shall have responsibility for supervision, control and direction of the affairs of the Society, its committees and publications; shall determine its policies or changes therein; and shall actively participate in formulating its objectives and in supervising the disbursement of its funds. The term of office will begin imiately upon installation at ASE’s annual Business Meeting held in June. (Click here to view the current list of Officers and Directors.)

Criteria for Board of Directors:

  • Active ASE Member
  • Accomplishments in the field including, but not limited to, service to the Society; respect in the profession
  • Previous service on ASE Committee(s), Council(s) or Task Force(s), preferably having chaired one of these positions
  • Nominees must be Fellows of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) at time of nomination
  • Board of Director members cannot participate in paid consultancy positions with commercial entities relative to the cardiovascular field (e.g., device and pharmaceutical companies) or for-profit educational bodies (e.g., cardiovascular web businesses, etc.). Royalties from published educational materials are allowed.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING OFFICER AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS

  • Nominations for the Executive Committee and Board of Director positions should be based on valuable service to ASE or contributions to the field of cardiovascular ultrasound.
  • All nominations should be accompanied by current CVs and documentation of their leadership skills.
  • Candidate for Vice President must have one letter of nomination and a maximum of five additional letters of support and/or recommendation from active members documenting that the candidate has leadership skills.
  • Candidates for Board members must have one letter of nomination and a maximum of three additional letters of support and/or recommendation from active members documenting that the candidate has leadership skills.
  • Nominations must be received by October 25, 2013.
  • Active members may nominate one candidate per open position (i.e., if there are 5 board positions open, no person can nominate more than 1 candidate; however, members can provide supporting letters to more than 1 candidate for the board of directors open positions).
  • NOTE: Members of the Executive Committee and Nominating Committee are not permitted to write letters of nomination or support for candidates.
  • Please address letters of nominations as well as letters of support to James Thomas, MD, FASE, Chair, ASE Nominating Committee. Note: Letters must be on letterhead.

ASE would like to keep the nominations as confidential as possible, so please do not copy (cc) your nomination to other individuals. After October 25, 2013, ASE will compile the nominations and distribute a full list to the ASE Nominations Committee for their review and ultimate recommendation to the ASE Board of Directors and membership.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF NOMINATORS AND CANDIDATES
FOR SUBMISSION OF COMPLETE NOMINATION INFORMATION

NOMINATOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Submit letter of nomination outlining candidate’s leadership skills to ASE via mail, email (madilday@asecho.org), or fax (919) 882-9900. Deadline for receipt is October 25, 2013.
  • Solicit additional letters of support (maximum of three per candidate for Board nominees; maximum of five for Vice President candidates). Letters must be received at ASE headquarters by October 25, 2013.

CANDIDATE’S RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accept Nomination
  • Make sure ASE has a copy of his/her CV before October 25, 2013.
  • Candidates will be required to submit a 1 page vision statement which includes their level of interest, expertise, areas of interest, how their time will be made available and how they would contribute to ASE achieving its goals.
  • Officer and Board of Director members cannot participate in a paid consultancy position with commercial entities relative to the cardiovascular field (e.g., device and pharmaceutical companies) or for-profit educational bodies (e.g., cardiovascular web businesses, etc.) Royalties from published educational materials are allowed.
